Abstract

ABSTRACT AN ANALYSIS OF SSS ( START WITH SIMPLE STORIES ) METHOD IN TEACHING EXTENSIVE READING AT EIGHT GRADE OF SMPN 1 CIKUPA By Oktavian Bayu Purwo Utomo (2223102241) The objective of the research are to describe the process of teaching extensive reading by using SSS (start with simple stories) at eight grade of SMPN 1 Cikupa and to know the student‘s responses in teaching reading by using SSS (Start with Simple Stories). This research used qualitative descriptive, the data needed for this research is collected through observation, interview, questionnaire and documentation (students‘ task and photographs). The research was conducted research on the VIII-I students of Junior High School at SMPN 1 Cikupa. The researcher was conducted observation, interview and questionnaire. The result was the process of teaching extensive reading was effective, because the teacher delivered material clearly and the students calmly learnt the material in the classroom. Also, SSS method was appropriate with the students, because the teacher used the rules of SSS method in teaching reading. The responses were good. It could be proven from the students feeling. They enjoyed and felt happy when they were reading the story. The interview result showed 70% students had fun in the class. The questionnaire data also showed 92,5 % SSS method is appropriate for the students. Keywords: SSS (Start with Simple Stories), Teaching Method, Extensive Reading
