Abstract

ABSTRACT An analysis of Grammatical Errors in Writing Narrative Text of Tenth Grade Students at SMAN 13 Kabupaten Tangerang in the Academic Year of 2014/2015 Nike Cakra Murdaya 2223110818 The aim of this research was to describe the students‟ grammatical errors and its sources in using tenses, pronoun, preposition, and word order. In this research, the researcher used a qualitative method in a form of descriptive analysis (percentage) that included conducting the observation, collecting the students‟ test, analyzing, and discussion the data. For collecting the data, the researcher used documentation of students‟ writing narrative text and interview as the instrument. This research was conducted to 33 students in 10.F class at SMAN 13 Kabupaten Tangerang. The result of the research describes that the highest frequency of grammatical errors was in tenses; there were 258 errors or 53%. The researcher classified the types of error into omission errors, addition errors, misformation error, and misordering error. The other finding was the sources of error which are divided into four categories. Those were interlanguage transfer, intralanguage transfer, context of learning and communicative strategies.
