Abstract

An Analysis of British Parliamentary Debate System in Building English Student Teachers’ Speaking Skill at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa State University Mueriece Bagoes Wicaksono iii 2223101971 ABSTRACT The objectives of this research is to find out British Parliamentary debate system impact in building English student teachers’ speaking skills and describe English student teachers’ attitudes in practicing debate at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa State University. English student teacher speaking skill is an English ability especially in speaking that mastered by an English student teacher. English student teacher is an English student who would become a future English teacher after he or she graduates from English department. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research as research method and design. There were three English student teachers with different degree used in this research. The research found that British Parliamentary debate system help English student teachers to build their speaking skills up. It is indicated by English student teachers’ speaking skills scores (oral proficiency scoring with 1-5 score). English student teachers’ score are 3-5 point for each aspect. It is believed that debate, especially British Parliamentary debate system gives more chances for English student teachers to practice their speaking skills. The research findings above concluded that British Parliamentary debate system is very helpful to build English student teachers speaking skills. Therefore, the use of debate as technique in teaching speaking is really encouraged for EFL students. Keywords: Teaching Speaking, Debate, British Parliamentary Debate System, EFL, Speaking Skills.
