Abstract

ABSTRACT Herdyanrani, Dewi Enggar. 2015. A Descriptive Analysis of Using English- Indonesian Code Switching and Code Mixing by English Teacher at SMAN 10 Tangerang Academic Year 2014/2015. Study Program of English, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa State University. The purpose of this study is describing the code switching and code mixing spoken by English Teacher at SMAN 10 Tangerang in teaching-learning process academic year 2014/2015. The researcher used Holmes (2001) and Wardaugh’s theory (1986) for sociolinguistic aspects of code switching and types of code mixing. For function and reason of using code switching and code mixing, the researcher used Holmes’ theory (2001).The objectives of this research were types of code mixing and sociolinguistic aspect of code switching, function of code and the reason of using code switching and code mixing. Method for analyzing the data, the researcher used descriptive research. The researcher used audio recording and interview to collect the data. The data classified based on sociolinguistic aspects of code switching, types of code mixing, function of code switching, and the reason of using code switching and code mixing. The result of this research, sociolinguistic aspect of code switching are situational and metaphorical code switching. The metaphorical code switching used more often by the teacher with percentage 68,75%, while situational code switching only 31,25%. For types of code mixing, the researcher only found intra-sentential code mixing. In this paper the researcher only found three functions. There are topic, directive, and affective function. For reasons of using code switching and code mixing, the results are expressive and to persuade audience. The result of this research can be used to teacher to apply it in teaching-learning process to make it easier to deliver materials and to communicate with students.
