Abstract
The objective of this research is to find out the types and factors of code switching and code mixing in English language classroom at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 1 Kota Serang. The researcher used qualitative research by content analysis as the research design. The data were collected by several techniques, they are classroom recordings and interview. The last researcher put the all data gained into the table, it is used to make easier in doing analyzes. The researcher used descriptive qualitative approach to get the data. Almost 96% teacher and students used switched and mixed in English language classroom when teaching- learning process. Most of this study found 8 utterances of inter- sentential or 34,78% of the total utterances, 11 utterances of intra- sentential or 47,82% of the total utterances of the total utterances and 3 utterances of tag switching or 13,04% of the total utterances. While 1 utterances of insertion or 4,34% of the total utterances. While, factors influencing code switching and code mixing were 25% for talking about a particular topic, 25% for being emphatic about something (express solidarity) and 25% for interjection. Based on the findings of this study, it found that teacher and students used of code switching and code mixing in English language classroom in teaching- learning process.
