Abstract

The purpose of this research is described the communication ability of written mathematics and student’s character, reviewed through the early mathematical ability. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The research was done in junior high schools 7 Kota Cilegon, at the beginning of september and late october 2021. The subject of this research is math teacher, homeroom teacher, and the two class of 8th grade students. The technique collection for data are used interview, observation, survey, and documentation. Data analysis is measured by triangulation data, triangulation consist of triangulation methods and sources. The aspects of student characters that used have induced to three aspects are discipline, motivation, and independence. The results of the study got that the highest on the discipline 58.33 %, the independence 53.74%, and motivation 54.74%. The indicators used have induced from previous researchers so as to be three aspects a mathematical expression , actual steps for that problem , and the conclusion of .The results of the study rata-rata score obtained to mathematical ability 57,11% students are written and the relationship with the student mathematical ability.

Additional Information: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan kemampuan komunikasi matematis tertulis siswa, dan ditinjau melalui kemampuan awal matematis siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Penelitian dilakukan di SMP Negeri 7 Kota Cilegon, pada awal bulan September – akhir bulan Oktober 2021. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru matematika, wali kelas, dan dua kelas siswa kelas 8. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik tes uraian, wawancara, observasi, angket, dan dokumentasi. Analisis data akan dilakukan dengan triangulasi data, triangulasi yang digunakan meliputi triangulasi metode dan sumber. Karakter siswa yang digunakan telah diinduksi sehingga menjadi tiga aspek yaitu disiplin, motivasi, dan kemandirian. Hasil dari penelitian didapatkan bahwa aspek tertinggi pada aspek disiplin 58.33%, aspek kemandirian 53,74% dan aspek motivasi 54,74%. Indikator yang digunakan telah diinduksi dari beberapa peneliti terdahulu sehingga menjadi tiga aspek yaitu ekspresi matematis, langkah pengerjaan, dan kesimpulan pengerjaan. Hasil dari penelitian rata-rata skor yang didapatkan untuk kemampuan matematis tertulis siswa adalah 57,11% dan adanya hubungan dengan kemampuan awal matematis siswa.
