Abstract

ABSTRACT The Influence of Visualization Strategy toward Students’ Reading Comprehension at the Eighth Grade of SMP Negeri 3 Kota Serang By Faridatul Khusna 2223101902 This research is about the influence of visualization strategy towards students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 3 Kota Serang. The objective of this research is to find out the influence of visualization strategy towards students’ reading comprehension. This research was quantitative research that used true experimental design as a method. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Kota Serang. The research methodology was a true experimental research conducted in two classes, the experimental class (VIII A) and control class (VIII B) as samples. The VIII A class was taught by visualization strategy, while the VIII B class was taught without visualization strategy. The instruments for collecting the data were tests namely pretest and posttest. The tests had been tried out to VIII G class to find out the validity and reliability before it was used to gather the data. The formula for analyzing the data was t-test. It was used to determine whether there was a significance difference between students’ scores in experimental class and students’ scores in control class or not. After the data had been analyzed, it was found that the pretest average of the experimental class was 55.5 and control class was 56.7. While, the post-test average of the experimental class was 83.7 and control class was 68.8. The obtained t-test was 8.864 with t-table was 1.671. The t-test score was higher than t-table (8.864 ≥ 1.671). It meant that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Since t-test score was higher than the t-table, it can be concluded that there was a significant influence of visualization strategy toward students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 3 Kota Serang.
