Abstract
The Analysis of Teacher’s Technique in Teaching Reading Comprehension Through Top Down Model for Students at The Second Grade of SMPN 1 TIGARAKSA TANGERANG By: Aan Nur Hasanah 2223103427 ABSTRACT The objectives of this research were to describe process of teaching reading comprehension using top down model at the second grade of SMPN 1 Tigaraksa, and to describe the students’ responses toward the teacher’s techniques in teaching reading at SMPN 1 Tigaraksa. The subject of this study was an English teacher and the students of the second grade of A class. The researcher conducted a qualitative research by implementing descriptive design, in which the data collected is in the form of word rather than number. The researcher carried out observation, interview, and documentation as the data collection techniques. Interview was given to the teacher and students and documentation was taken with English teacher and students. Analyzing the data, the researcher used data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Result of data analysis showed that the process of teaching reading comprehension through top down model the teacher could help the students to enrich their reading comprehension. Top Down Model can be used as an alternative media in teaching reading because it is an interesting media for the students to learn. By using Top Down Model, the students are able to understand the text easily. Most of the students were interested in learning reading through top down model and the techniques that were implemented. From the finding illustrated above, it can be concluded that implementing some techniques in teaching reading thought top down model was very important to make them to be more motivated in reading activity.
