Abstract

Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are known as prebiotic to play a role in increasing growth performance and digestive enzyme activity in fish and shrimp. This study aims to evaluate prebiotic enrichment in Artemia on the growth and digestive enzyme activity of Litopenaeus vannamei larvae. This study used a completely randomized design using 4 treatment with 3 repetitions: treatment K (without addition of FOS), treatment A (Artemia sp. enrichment of 1.3% FOS), treatment B (Artemia sp. enrichment of 1.5% FOS) and treatment C (Artemia sp. enrichment of 1.7% FOS). Shrimp were reared in a 30x14x21 cm3 container box containing 5 L of seawater with a density of 20 L-1 for 12 days. The result showed that enrichment of Artemia sp. with FOS produce a significantly different value (P<0.05) on the growth and digestive enzyme activity of shrimp vannamei larvae compared to control. The best results were obtained at a dose of 1.7% showed the best results absolute biomass (0.16±0.02 mg), daily weight growth rate (3.39±0.38%), absolute length (4.07±0.72 mm), daily lenght growth rate (5.82±0.73%), survival rate (64.33±4.04%), amylase (0.44±0.008 U/mL/minute), protease (0.04±0.04 U/mL/minute) and lipase (0.04±0.04 U/mL/minute), higher than other treatments. It could be concluded that enrichment of Artemia sp. with FOS resulted able to increase the performance of growth and digestive enzyme activity of Litopenaeus vannamei larvae with the best value at the dose of 1.7% FOS compared to the control treatment.

Additional Information: Fruktooligosakarida dikenal sebagai prebiotik yang berperan dalam meningkatkan kinerja pertumbuhan dan aktivitas enzim pencernaan pada ikan dan udang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengkayaan Artemia sp. dengan prebiotik terhadap pertumbuhan dan aktivitas enzim pemcernaan larva udang vaname. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan 4 kali perlakuan dan 3 kali ulangan, dimana: perlakuan K (tanpa pengkayaan FOS 0%), perlakuan A (pengkayaan Artemia sp. dengan FOS 1,3%), perlakuan B (pengkayaan Artemia sp. dengan FOS 1,5%) dan perlakuan C (pengkayaan Artemia sp. dengan FOS 1,7%). Larva udang vaname dipelihara menggunakan wadah plastik dengan ukuran 30x14x21 cm3 yang diisi air laut sebanyak 5 L, padat tebar pada penelitian ini sebanyak 20 ekor/liter dan dipelihara selama 12 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengkayaan Artemia sp. dengan FOS menghasilkan nilai yang berbeda nyata (P<0.05) pada pertumbuhan dan aktivitas enzim pencernaan larva udang vaname dibandingkan dengan perlakuan kontrol. Hasil terbaik diperoleh pada perlakuan pemberian dosis FOS sebesar 1,7% dengan nilai biomassa mutlak sebesar (0,016±0,02 mg), laju pertumbuhan bobot harian (3,39±0,38%), panjang mutlak (4,07±0,72 mm), laju pertumbuhan panjang harian (5,82±0,73), kelangsungan hidup (64,33±4,04%), amilase (0,44±0,008 U/mL/menit), protese (0,04±0,04 U/mL/menit) dan lipase (0,04±0,04 U/mL/menit) lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan perlakuan yang lain. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengkayaan Artemia sp. dengan FOS mampu meningkatkan kinerja pertumbuhan dan aktivitas enzim pencernaan larva udang vaname dengan nilai terbaik pada pemberian dosis FOS sebesar 1,7% dibandingkan dengan perlakuan kontrol.
