Abstract

The objectives of this research were aimed to know the students’ comprehension in using linguistic feature of recount text, to identify the types of error in the students’ linguistic feature, and to find out the problems faced by students in writing recount text at tenth grade of SMK PGRI 1 Kota Serang. To achieve the objectives, the researcher conducted qualitative case study research with descriptive analysis as a method in analyzing the students’ error in linguistic feature of recount text. The researcher used document analysis and interview as the instruments. The result of the analysis showed that the students’ comprehension in using linguistic feature of recount text was still low, especially in the use of past tense with total errors 168 errors or 87,04%. Then, misformation in the use of past tense was the most types of error that the students made in linguistic feature with total errors 89 errors or 39,89%. Dealing with writing recount text, most of the students found the problems in applying irregular, tenses mastery, verb mastery, subject order, pronoun, and conjunction. Therefore, it was recommended for the students to practice more in English grammar to improve their knowledge, particularly in writing recount text.
