Abstract

The objective of this research is to identify the strategies of the phrasal verb translation and the qualities of the translation by the 6th semester of English Education Department of University of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method by content analysis as research design and conducted a test of translation to collect the data of students‘ translation. The students‘ translation strategies were analyzed using Larson‘s strategy. Meanwhile, the quality was assessed using Nababan‘s translation accuracy. The result of this research reveals that students dominant use semantic strategies with 259 applications or 93.8% from total 276 phrasal verbs translation. Meanwhile, for literal translation 0% or no one students who translate literally, 3.3% or 9 are not translated, and there are 2.9% or 8 students used omission translation. For the quality of accuracy, majority the students translate the phrasal verbs accurately with percentage 62.7% accurate, 14.8% less accurate, 19.2% inaccurate, 3.3% not translated. Therefore, majority of students‘ translation of phrasal verbs is accurate and dominated by semantic translation strategy.
