Abstract

DERI HERMAWAN. 2019. The Effectivity of Zeolite and Active Carbon Addition Towards Survival Rate of Milkfish juvenils (Chanos chanos) on Closed System Transportation. Supervised by MUSTAHAL and MAS BAYU SYAMSUNARNO. Milkfish (Chanos chanos) is a fish commodity brackishwater acuaculture whose production increases every year. The success of this fish is inseparable from the quality of juvenils stocked on enlargement ponds. Fish density is an obstacle in closed system transportation which affects the accumulation of ammonia. One of the attempts made to neutralize toxic ammonia is by adding zeolite and activated carbon to the transportation packaging This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the best treatment in comparison of zeolite and activated carbon in maintaining the water quality of transport media and the survival rate of milkfish juvenils in closed system transportation. This study used a factorial complete randomized design with 6 treatments and 3 replications namely A (control), B (20g zeolite), C (15g zeolite + 5g activated carbon), D (10g zeolite + 10g activated carbon), E (5g zeolite + 15g activated carbon) and F (20g of activated carbon). The results showed that treatment C (15g zeolite + 5g activated carbon) supported milkfish transportation with a survival rate of 80.00 ± 6.44% during transportation simulation and 72% at the end of maintenance. This is also seen in the value of better water quality, TAN 0.1321 ± 0.0046 mg / L, NH3 0.0100 ± 0.0004 mg/L, temperature 26.9 ± 0 ̊C, pH 6. 14 ± 0.01, DO 6.5 ± 0.17 mg/L and the blood profile is better than other treatments during post- transportation maintenance.
