Abstract

The ability to think creatively is an important aspect that must be possessed by students. Many teachers in primary or secondary schools still pay little attention to this ability. that creativity and cognitive style have a very important role and need to be considered in the learning process. By knowing the abilities of cognitive style and its relation to students' creative thinking abilities, teachers gain broad insight about the potential and talents of their students. The purpose of this study was to describe the mathematical creative thinking ability of junior high school students on the Pythagorean theorem material in terms of reflective and impulsive cognitive styles. This research is a qualitative research with descriptive method. The subjects in this study were class VIII students at SMP Negeri 2 Balaraja who had reflective and impulsive cognitive styles. The selection of research subjects was carried out using a purposive sampling technique based on the Matching Familiar Figure Test (MFFT) cognitive style test instrumen. Data collection techniques in this study were creative thinking skills tests and interviews. The creative thinking ability test analysis refers to three components of creative thinking, namely fluency, flexibility, and novelty. The results of this study indicate that (1) based on the fluency indicator, students with reflective cognitive style and students with impulsive cognitive style have almost the same ability on the fluency indicator. The difference can be seen from the completeness of the answers, where students with reflective cognitive style tend to write more complete answers than students with impulsive cognitive style. (2) based on flexibility indicators, students with reflective and impulsive cognitive styles have almost the same flexibility abilities. (3) based on the novelty indicator, students with reflective cognitive style tend to do better than students with impulsive cognitive style.

Additional Information: Kemampuan berpikir kreatif merupakan aspek penting yang harus dimiliki siswa. Banyak guru di sekolah dasar atau menengah masih kurang memperhatikan kemampuan ini. Dengan mengetahui kemampuan tentang gaya kognitif dan kaitannya dengan kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa, guru memperoleh wawasan yang luas tentang potensi dan bakat yang dimiliki siswa-siswinya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendiskripsikan kemampuan berpikir kreatif matematis siswa SMP pada materi teorema phytagoras ditinjau dari gaya kognitif reflektif dan impulsif. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini yaitu siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 2 Balaraja yang memiliki gaya kognitif reflektif dan impulsif. Pemilihan subjek penelitian ini dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling yang didasari dengan menggunakan instrumen tes gaya kognitif Matching Familiar Figure Test (MFFT). Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah tes kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan wawancara. Analisis tes kemampuan berpikir kreatif mengacu pada tiga komponen berpikir kreatif yaitu fluency, flexibility, dan novelty. Hasil penelitian ini menyebutkan bahwa (1) berdasarkan indikator fluency, siswa dengan gaya kognitif reflektif dan siswa dengan gaya kognitif impulsif memiliki kemampuan berpikir kreatif matematis yang hampir sama pada indikator fluency. Perbedaannya terlihat dari kelengkapan jawaban, dimana siswa dengan gaya kognitif reflektif cenderung menuliskan jawaban lebih lengkap dibandingkan siswa dengan gaya kognitif impulsif. (2) berdasarkan indikator flexibility, siswa dengan gaya kognitif reflektif dan impulsif memiliki kemampuan berpikir kreatif matematis yang hampir sama pada indicator flexibility. (3) berdasarkan indikator novelty, kemampuan berpikir kreatif matematis siswa dengan gaya kognitif reflektif cenderung lebih baik daripada siswa dengan gaya kognitif impulsif.
