Abstract

Turbine blades are an important part of the turbine that aims to rotate the turbine shaft to generate electrical energy. Generally, the material used in the turbine blades is martensitic stainless steel but the material is easy to failure. The failure mechanismis triggered by the micro cracks and chloride elements in the crack so that the blade breaks eventually. The existence of different heat treatment also affects the value of the hardness that affects the type of fault generated on the steel. In this study aims to evaluate impact resistance, hardness and microstructure of 13 Cr3Mo3Ni martensitic stainless steels with heat treatment temperature variation and to evaluate fracture forms of 13 Cr3Mo3Ni martensitic stainless steels. The austenitization process was carried out at 1000 oC, 1050 oC, and 1100 oC and tempering at 500 oC, 550 oC, 600 oC, 650 oC, and 700 oC with a holding time of 60 min. While the mechanical tests are rockwell hardness test and charpy impact test. To know the microstructure, metallographic test is conducted and to know the fracture surface after impact test, SEMis conducted. The result is the lowest hardness value is shown at austenitization temperature 1000C and tempering temperature 700 oC, that is 38.13 HRC. While the highest impact value is shown at austenitization of 1100C and tempering of 650C, that is 114.00 J. The microstructure formed is martensite, retained austenite, ferrite, and metal carbide.
