Abstract

This study was intended to develop a picture book for reading procedure text. This study aims at finding out students learning needs for procedure text reading materials, reveal the process of product development, and investigate the quality of the developed product based on the 2013 curriculum. This study adopted Research and Development Design proposed by Borg and Gall (1983). The students’ open-ended questionnaire, teacher’s interview, and experts’ validation forms were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The semi-structured interview and open-ended questionnaire were employed to collect data on students’ needs in learning reading procedure text, both instruments were analyzed qualitatively based on Miles, Huberman & Saldana’s (2014) theory. The experts’ validation sheets were used to collect data on the development process and the quality of the product. The instruments were analyzed quantitatively by using descriptive statistics adopted from Johnson & Christensen (2014). Data analysis revealed first, the students’ picture book was needed as learning teaching media for teaching reading procedure text. Second, the five processes of Borg and Gall (1983) to develop a product were research and information collecting, planning, developing a preliminary form of product, main product revision, and operational product. Third, the quality of the product was qualified to be used based on the result of experts’ validation. In conclusion, the picture book could be applied as an alternative teaching-learning media for procedure text reading materials in schools. Additional Information: Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk mengembangkan buku bergambar untuk membaca teks prosedur. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kebutuhan belajar siswa terhadap bahan bacaan teks prosedur, mengungkap proses pengembangan produk, dan menyelidiki kualitas produk yang dikembangkan berdasarkan kurikulum 2013. Penelitian ini mengadopsi Rancangan Penelitian dan Pengembangan yang dikemukakan oleh Borg dan Gall (1983). Kuesioner terbuka siswa, wawancara guru, dan formulir validasi ahli digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Data dianalisis secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Wawancara semi-terstruktur dan angket terbuka digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data tentang kebutuhan siswa dalam pembelajaran membaca teks prosedur, kedua instrumen dianalisis secara kualitatif berdasarkan teori Miles, Huberman & Saldana (2014). Lembar validasi ahli digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data tentang proses pengembangan dan kualitas produk. Instrumen dianalisis secara kuantitatif dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif yang diadopsi dari Johnson & Christensen (2014). Analisis data mengungkapkan pertama, buku bergambar siswa diperlukan sebagai media pembelajaran untuk mengajar membaca teks prosedur. Kedua, lima proses Borg dan Gall (1983) untuk mengembangkan produk adalah penelitian dan pengumpulan informasi, perencanaan, pengembangan produk awal, revisi produk utama, dan produk operasional. Ketiga, kualitas produk layak digunakan berdasarkan hasil validasi ahli. Kesimpulannya, buku bergambar dapat diterapkan sebagai alternatif media pembelajaran untuk bahan bacaan teks prosedur di sekolah. Kata Kunci: Media Pembelajaran, Teks Prosedur, Buku Gambar.
