Abstract

This study describes the family communication dysfunction of career women in Cibeber Sub-district, Cilegon City. The purpose of this study is to describe why communication dysfunction can occur in the families of career women in Cibeber Sub-District, Cilegon City and to describe the impact of communication dysfunction in career women's families in Cibeber Sub-District, Cilegon City. This study used two theoretical approaches, the first is the johari window theory by Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham, the second is the structural functional theory by Robert King Merton. The research method used is a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques used in this study were non-participant observation, interviews and documentation. The informants involved are residents who lived in Cibeber Sub-District, Cilegon City with four married couples, they are four career women who are married as main informants and four men whose wife is a career woman as supporting informants. The analytical technique used in this study is the interactive mode of data analysis proposed by Miles and Huberman with three components, namely data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this study showed that although career women and their partners communicated effectively, at certain times one of the parties did not prioritize aspects of openness, empathy, support, positive feelings and equality which resulted in communication dysfunction. This communication dysfunction can be caused by several factors and in this study used the Johari window concept to gauge someone's openness to communicating. Based on the answers of the informants, the open concept is characterized by always expressing what they feel, the blind concept is characterized by career women who feel the burden of carrying out multiple roles but believe that they are fine, the closed concept is characterized by not expressing what they feel. While this is engaged in outdoor work, it does not eliminate a woman from her role as well as from her responsibilities that show a manifest function, the impact of this communication dysfunction is also felt by the partner, which is felt by the child, who is often affected by the effects, which becomes a latent function and becomes dysfunctional because the child becomes unresponsive. receive protective, emotional and recreational functions when communication dysfunction occurs. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua pendekatan teori, teori pertama yaitu johari window oleh Joseph Luft dan Harry Ingham, teori kedua yaitu struktural fungsional oleh Robert King Merton. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Tekhnik pengambilan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi non-partisipan, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Informan yang terlibat adalah warga yang berdomisili di Kecamatan Cibeber, Kota Cilegon dengan empat pasang suami-istri, keempat pasangan tersebut yaitu empat perempuan karier yang sudah berkeluarga sebagai informan utama dan empat laki-laki yang istrinya seorang perempuan karier sebagai informan pendukung. Teknik analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis data model interaktif yang dikemukakan oleh Miles dan Huberman dengan tiga komponen yaitu reduksi data, sajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah walaupun perempuan karier dan pasangannya menjalani komunikasi secara efektif tetapi disaat tertentu salah satu pihak tidak mengedepankan aspek keterbukaan, empati, dukungan, perasaan positif dan kesetaraan yang mengakibatkan disfungsi komunikasi. Disfungsi komunikasi ini dapat disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor dan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan konsep johari window untuk melihat keterbukaan seseorang dalam berkomunikasi. Berdasarkan jawaban informan konsep terbuka ditandai dengan selalu mengutarakan apa yang dirasakan, konsep buta ditandai dengan perempuan karier yang merasakan beban dari menjalani peran ganda tetapi meyakini bahwa dirinya baik saja, konsep tertutup ditandai dengan tidak mengutarakan apa yang dirasakan. Meski disibukan dengan pekerjaan di luar rumah, hal ini tidak membuat seorang perempuan karier terlepas dari peran dan juga tanggung jawabnya yang menunjukan fungsi manifes tetapi dampak dari adanya disfungsi komunikasi ini selain dirasakan oleh pasangan dirasakan oleh anak yang kerap terkena imbasnya yang menjadi fungsi laten dan menjadi disfungsi sebab anak menjadi tidak mendapat fungsi perlindungan, perasaan dan rekreasi saat disfungsi komunikasi terjadi.
