Abstract

A Large Ion Collider (ALICE) is one of four Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiments, designed to study the state of matter at extremely high energy densities reached in the collision of heavy-ions in opposite directions. The ALICE Inner Tracking System (ITS) consists of an arrangement in seven cylindrical layers of monolithic silicon pixel sensors. The sensors are used to record the trajectory of charged particles produced in the collision. This study presents a method for measuring reference markers that are used to determine precision of the sensor alignment. The Hough transform, Canny edge detection, and template matching have been applied to detect markers located at the chip corners. The distance between the two markers are used to determine the precision of the pixel sensor alignment. The proposed methods have an accuracy of 99%, but there are some deviations in the measured sensors position.

Additional Information: A Large Ion Collider (ALICE) merupakan salah satu dari empat penelitian Large Hadron Collider (LHC) yang dirancang untuk mempelajari status materi pada kepadatan energi yang sangat tinggi dengan cara menumbukkan antar-ion berat yang arahnya saling berlawanan. ALICE Inner Tracking System (ITS) terdiri dari susunan tujuh lapisan silinder dari sensor piksel berbahan silikon monolitik. Sensor tersebut digunakan untuk merekam lintasan partikel bermuatan dari hasil tumbukan. Penelitian ini menyajikan metode untuk mengukur reference marker yang digunakan sebagai kepresisian susunan sensor. Transformasi Hough, deteksi tepi Canny, dan template matching digunakan untuk mendeteksi marker yang berada di sudut chip sensor. Jarak antara dua marker digunakan untuk menentukan kepresisian susunan chip sensor. Hasil penelitian memiliki akurasi sebesar 99%, tetapi terdapat beberapa penyimpangan pada posisi sensor yang diukur.
