Abstract
The increasing use of machines from various sectors causes the need for supporting materials for machine maintenance such as lubricants to also increase. To support sustainable development, biodegradable lubricants are needed of called biolubricant. Biolubricant is a lubricant based on vegetable oil as an alternative to petroleum in the hope that it is environmentally friendly and can develop biolubricant research. The purpose of this study was to obtain the optimum yield percentage, the characteristics of the biolubricant and to determine the kinetics of the synthesis reaction. This biolubricant was prepared by reacting jatropha oil with ethanol in a mole ratio of 1:1, 1:3 and 1:5 with the aid od a SO42-/TiO2-SiO2 catalyst with a mass of 1%, 1,5%, and 2%. The result of the study showed that the highest percentage yield was found in the mole ratio of 1:5 and 1% catalyst (BL 3), which was 83,2%with a density value of 0,95 gr/ml. The best biolubricant characteristics are getting viscosity as 40oC, namely 85 mpa.s and 100oC, namely 11 mpa.s, flash point value is 252oC, and pour point value is -11oC. in the GC-MS analysis test for biolubricant synthesis, there is a fatty acid content of Ricinoleic Acid which is reacted with ethanol to produce Ricinoleic Methyl Ester compound with the percentage of biolubricant formed 74,87%.
