Abstract

Mathematics has attracted international attention, as seen by PISA, which so far has measured the ability of Indonesian students but cannot be said to be satisfactory, especially in the field of mathematical literacy. The role of visuals is often overlooked, but it opens new experiences in learning mathematics and in-depth new understanding. The research aim is how to develop, evaluate, and analyze visual thinking-based mathematics teaching materials to optimize mathematical literacy in 8th grade students of SMPN 1 Cikande. This research and development adapt ADDIE development procedures from the theory of Lee & Owens which in this research is limited to one cycle. The developed teaching materials obtained validity with "valid" results with a score of 80% from education experts and "valid" results with a score of 75% from media experts, practicality test results by mathematics subject teachers were "very practical" with a score of 83% and responses students are "very good" with a score of 81%. Based on the calculated results of the increase in students' mathematical literacy skills, the n-gain value of 0.445 obtained. The conclusions obtained were that the teaching materials developed were declared feasible by education experts and media experts, very practical for teachers to use in learning activities, and could optimize students' mathematical literacy skills before and after using teaching materials.

Additional Information: Matematika menarik perhatian internasional dibuktikan dengan PISA yang selama ini telah mengukur kemampuan siswa Indonesia tetapi belum dapat dikatakan memuaskan terlebih dalam bidang literasi matematika. Peran visual sering kali diabaikan padahal memberikan pengalaman baru belajar matematika dan pemahaman baru yang mendalam. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah bagaimana mengembangkan, mengevaluasi, dan menganalisis bahan ajar matematika berbasis visual thinking untuk mengoptimalkan literasi matematika pada siswa kelas VIII SMPN 1 Cikande. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan dengan prosedur pengembangan ADDIE yang diadaptasi dari teori Lee & Owens di mana dalam penelitian ini dibatasi dalam satu siklus saja. Bahan ajar yang dikembangkan mendapatkan validitas dengan hasil validasi “valid” dengan skor 80% dari ahli pendidikan dan hasil "valid" dengan skor 75% dari ahli media, hasil uji kepraktisan oleh guru mata pelajaran matematika “sangat praktis” dengan skor 83% dan respons peserta didik “sangat baik” dengan skor 81%. Berdasarkan hasil penghitungan peningkatan kemampuan literasi matematika siswa nilai n-gain sebesar 0.445. Kesimpulan yang didapat bahan ajar yang dikembangkan dinyatakan layak oleh ahli pendidikan dan ahli media, sangat praktis untuk digunakan guru dalam kegiatan pembelajaran, serta dapat mengoptimalkan kemampuan literasi matematika siswa sebelum dan setelah menggunakan bahan ajar.
