Abstract

This study aims to describe learning difficulties, causes and efforts made to minimize learning difficulties for VIII A students in the matter of a system of twovariable linear equations at SMPN 2 Pabuaran.The subjects of this study were students of class VIII SMPN 2 Pabuaran. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. The instruments used are tests and interviews. The results showed that based on the aspect of concept difficulty, there were groups of students who experienced difficulties, namely not being able to remember names technically, unable to include the meaning of terms that represent certain concepts and unable to conclude information about certain concepts. Meanwhile, in the aspect of principle difficulty, there are groups of students who experience difficulties, namely not being able to perform algebraic operations or not being careful in calculations and unable to determine relevant factors so that they are unable to abstract patterns. These difficulties are caused because students are not able to understand the material well, rarely take notes on the subject matter, do not study or read the material that has been delivered. difficulties experienced by students result in low learning outcomes so they need to be overcome by increasing learning, asking questions when there is material that is not understood, practicing working on practice questions and applying interesting/meaningful learning to minimize learning difficulties. Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kesulitan belajar, penyebab dan upaya yang dilakukan untuk meminimalkan kesulitan belajar siswa VIII A pada materi sistem persamaan linear dua variabel di SMPN 2 Pabuaran. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII A SMPN 2 Pabuaran. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Instrument yang digunakan adalah tes dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa berdasarkan aspek kesulitan konsep terdapat kelompok siswa yang mengalami kesulitan yaitu tidak mampu mengingat nama secara teknis, tidak mampu menyertakan arti istilah-istilah yang mewakili konsep-konsep tertentu dan tidak mampu menyimpulkan informasi tentang konsep tertentu. Sedangkan pada aspek kesulitan prinsip terdapat kelompok siswa yang mengalami kesulitan yaitu tidak mampu melakukan operasi aljabar atau tidak teliti dalam perhitungan dan tidak mampu menentukan faktor yang relevan sehingga tidak mampu mengabstraksi pola-pola. Kesulitan tersebut disebabkan karena siswa tidak mampu memahami materi dengan baik, jarang mencatat materi pelajaran, tidak mempelajari atau membaca-baca materi yang telah disampaikan. kesulitan yang dialami siswa mengakibatkan hasil belajar yang rendah sehingga perlu diatasi dengan cara meningkatkan pembelajaran, bertanya ketika ada materi yang belum dipahami, berlatih mengerjakan soal-soal latihan dan menerapkan pembelajaran yang menarik/bermakna untuk meminimalisir terjadinya kesulitan belajar.
