Abstract

ABSTRACT The Implementation of Cooperative Integrated of Reading Composition (CIRC)Technique in Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension By Using Narrative Text Grade Eleventh at SMA N 10 Pandeglang (A Classroom Action Research) By RAHMAT HIDAYAT (073411) Students often are bored and frustrated with the text because of its complex structure and meaning of the content. Most of the students need long time to understand and hard to follow along with everything going on. The objectives of the research were to know the process and result of teaching students’ reading comprehension in term of narrative text after implement CIRC method at eleventh grade of SMA N 10 Pandeglang. The method used in this study was Classroom Action Research in which the writer observed and gave the treatment for teaching reading comprehension. The population was the eleventh grade students of SMAN 10 Pandeglang consist of 28 students as the sample. In this Classroom Action Research, the writer used test (pre – test and post –test) ,observation sheet and documentation for collecting the data. The process of teaching reading comprehension, the students were happy when they were reading comprehension using cooperative learningCIRC method. All students were enjoyable to read the text with their group. They could follow and comprehend what they read and shared information with their group. In addition, they also could learn some new vocabularies. All students were confident to answer the teacher’s question. The writer used pre – test to know students’ ability before they got the treatment. In addition, the writer also used post – test to know students’ improvement after getting the treatment. The average of pre – test is 62.5, and the average score of post – test I is 72.5. The improvement between pre – test and post – test I is 10 %. For the post – test 2, the average score is 81.78. The percentage of improvement from the post – test I and post – test II is 9.28%. Therefore, teacher should choose an appropriate way and effective technique in teaching to get students’ interest. Finally, the writer concludes that Cooperative learning-CIRC method can be used to improve students’ reading comprehension.
