Abstract

This study aims to describe the ability to understand students' mathematical concepts based on the APOS theory in terms of high, medium and low learning independence which focuses on the flat side (cube and block) material. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. The research subjects were students of class VIIIA SMPN 5 Cilegon. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The instruments used in this research are descriptive test instruments to measure students' conceptual understanding skills, learning independence questionnaires and interviews. The results showed that students with high learning independence were able to fulfill all indicators of understanding mathematical concepts and students had reached the schema stage. Students with moderate learning independence are only able to arrive at the object stage. And students with low learning independence are only able to reach the action stage.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa berdasarkan teori APOS yang ditinjau dari kemandirian belajar tinggi, sedang dan rendah yang berfokus pada materi bangun ruang sisi datar (kubus dan balok). Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatis. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIIIA SMPN 5 Cilegon. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu instrumen tes uraian untuk mengukur kemampuan pemahaman konsep siswa, instrumen angket kemandirian belajar dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa dengan kemandirian belajar tinggi sudah mampu memenuhi semua indikator pemahaman konsep matematis serta siswa sudah mencapai tahap skema. Siswa dengan kemandirian belajar sedang hanya mampu sampai pada tahap objek. Dan siswa dengan kemandirian belajar rendah hanya mampu mencapai tahap aksi saja.
