Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of this research is to find out the influence of using Jigsaw method toward students‟ reading comprehension achievement at the second grade of SMPN 24 Kota Serang. This research used quantitative research design by implementing the quasi-experimental design. There were two groups used in this research such as experimental and control group. VIII A was chosen as experimental group and VIII B was chosen as control group in which both of the groups consists of 30 students for each. Thus, the participants of this research were 60 students of the eighth grade of SMPN 24 Kota Serang. Based on the students‟ result in their reading comprehension‟ test and also their perception toward the learning process by using jigsaw method, it was found that the use of jigsaw method gave an influence toward the students‟ reading comprehension achievement. It was indicated by the result of independent ttest computation in which the value of t- count is higher than the t- table (3,077>2,001) at the level of significance α 0,05 and the degree of freedom of 62. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H 0 ) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This implies that there is a significance influence of using jigsaw method toward students‟ reading comprehension achievement. Keywords: Jigsaw method, Reading Comprehension.
