Additional Information: | Holothuria atra is a low economic value species of sea cucumber. Several studies have shown multiple bioactive compounds from this sea cucumber. These bioactive compounds could be potential as antioxidant. This research was aimed to determine antioxidant and characteristic of crude extract of H.atra extracted with different concentration of ethanol. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by using 2,2Diphenyl-1-Picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) and Cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC). Characterization of sample was evaluated by spectrophotometer Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FT-IR). The sample used in this research was H. atra extracted with different ethanol solvent 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 96%. Antioxidant assay was done by using dosage at 1.0 mg/mL. The result of DPPH assay showed that all samples of H. atra were weak to reduce oxidant (% < 50%). The result of FRAP assay showed that all samples had medium level of antioxidant capacity (FRAP values were 10-100 µmol Fe(II)/g). The result of CUPRAC assay showed that antioxidant capacity of H. atra were between 17.50-50.16 µmol trolox/g. Character of functional groups in samples of H. atra have some similarities, such as alkyl, carbonyl, aldehydes, and alcohol. These functional groups were potential to form triterpenoid, flavonoid, steroid and saponin compounds which could be as antioxidant. | |||||||||
