Abstract

Durian peel is one of the organic wastes that are difficult to decompose so that what causes the bad smell and can be transmitted to the environment. The abundance of carbon in organic waste such as durian skin as a basic material for the fabrication of fluorescent C-Dots. With a high carbon chain content, this study aims to recycle durian skin waste into C-Dots and determine its optical and structural characteristics. Recycling of durian skin waste is carried out through a process. Microwave with 450W power and varying heating time, 10 minutes, 20 minutes and 30 minutes. The skin waste from recycled durian shows photoluminescence properties with a greenish-yellow emission color when irradiated by UV light. The luminescence is the formation of C-Dots. The absorbance spectrum of C-Dots from recycled paper is in the wavelength range of 300 nm – 750 nm with a peak at a wavelength of 365 nm. Keywords: C-Dots, Microwave, Photoluminescence.

Additional Information: ABSTRAK Kulit durian merupakan salah satu limbah organik yang sulit untuk terurai sehingga dapat menyebabkan bau busuk dan dapat mencemari lingkungan. Melimpahnya ikatan karbon pada limbah organik seperti kulit durian menjadikannya sebagai bahan dasar untuk fabrikasi bahan berpendar C-Dots. Dengan kandungan rantai karbon yang tinggi, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendaur ulang limbah kulit durian menjadi C-Dots dan mengetahui karakteristik sifat optik dan strukturnya. Daur ulang limbah kulit durian dilakukan melalui proses microwave dengan daya 450W dan waktu pemanasan yang bervariasi yaitu 10 menit 20 menit dan 30 menit . Limbah kulit durian hasil daur ulang menunjukkan sifat fotoluminesensi dengan warna emisi kuning kehijauan saat diradiasi sinar UV. Perpendaran tersebut mengindikasikan terbentuknya C-Dots. Spektrum absorbansi C-Dots dari daur ulang limbah kertas berada pada rentang panjang gelombang 300 nm – 800 nm dengan puncak pada masing masing sampel yaitu panjang gelombang 365 nm.
