Abstract

Penelitian yang berjudul “Analisis Perkembangan Tematik Dalam Penulisan Argumentatif Siswa EFL di Indonesia” ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perkembangan tematik dalam penulisan argumentatif mahasiswa di Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini diarahkan untuk mengetahui bagaimana siswa mengatur tulisan mereka dan menggali kemampuan mereka dalam membuat tulisan yang baik melalui perkembangan tematik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Data untuk penelitian ini dikumpulkan dari sembilan teks argumentatif siswa dan dianalisis melalui analisis isi. Teks-teks tersebut dianalisis menggunakan pola Perkempangan Thematik dari Frontaine (2014). Temuan penelitian ini mengungkapkan ada tiga pola Perkembangan Tematik yang digunakan siswa untuk mengorganisasikan ide-ide mereka dalam tulisan argumentatif. Yaitu Pola Reiterasi yang merupakan pola paling sering digunakan (54.0%), Pola Zig-zag yang merupakan pola dominan kedua yang digunakan (34.4%), dan Pola Tema Ganda yang merupakan pola yang jarang digunakan (11.6%). Berdasarkan penjelasan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa perkembangan tematik menghasilkan kemajuan yang berarti dalam mengembangkan tulisan siswa.

Additional Information: This study entitle “Thematic Progresstion Analysis in Indonesian EFL Students’ Argumentative Writing” intended to analyze the thematic progression in students’ argumentative writing at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University. Therefore, this study was led to find out how the students organized their writing and explored their capability in making good writing through thematic progression. This study was employed qualitative method. The data for this study were collecting from nine students’ argumentative text and analyzing through content analysis. The texts were analyzed using Thematic Progression frameworks from Frontaine (2014). The finding of this study revealed there were three pattern of Thematic Progression that the students used to organize their ideas in argumentative writing. These are the Reiteration Pattern which is most frequently used pattern (54.0%), the Zig-zag Pattern which is the second dominant used (34.4%), and the Multiple Theme Pattern which is the rarely used pattern (11.6%). Based on the explanation, it could be concluded that thematic progression generated meaningful progress in developing students’ writing.
