Abstract

High road damage in Indonesia is caused by weather changes and volume of vehicular traffic. Thus, mixture with high asphalt layer thickness is needed, UV-resistant and retarding the effects of oxidation and water entry. The SMA mixture is usually added with a stabilizer made of cellulose fiber, yet the cellulose fiber itself is naturally made which will run out in time. In reducing the use of cellulose fiber materials, the researcher uses synthetic materials to try to replace cellulose materials, with using glass fiber materials (fiberglass). This study aims to determine the effect of adding glass fiber (fiberglass) 0%, 0.2%, 0.3% and 0.4% in marshall testing and to determine the value of KAO required to withstand traffic loads with testing marshall characteristics. Result showed that the mixture using fiberglass fibers had their respective stability values at 0% fiber content the stability value was 914kg > 600Kg, at 0.2% fiber content the stability value was 930kg > 600kg, at 0.3% fiber content 1002kg > 600kg with the same KAO value of the three fibers, which is 6.75%. While the stability value of 0.4% fiber content is 1032 kg > 600 kg, where the fiber content value of 0.4% is the optimum stability value with an KAO value of 7%. From the results, it can be concluded that the use of fiberglass can retain the load and can be an alternative material as a mixture of SMA materials because it meets the Specification Standard of Highways.

Additional Information: Tingginya kerusakan jalan di Indonesia di sebabkan oleh pengantian cuaca dan disebabkan oleh volume lalu lintas kendaraan. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan campuran yang memiliki lapisan ketebalan aspal yang cukup tinggi, tahan oleh sinar ultraviolet dan memperlambat pengaruh oksidasi serta masuknya air. Campuran SMA biasanya ditambahkan bahan penstabil yang terbuat dari serat selulosa, akan tetapi serat selulosa sendiri terbuat dari alam yang sering waktu serat tersebut akan habis pada waktunya. Dalam mengurangi pemakaian bahan serat selulosa peneliti menggunakan bahan sintesis untuk mencoba menggantikan bahan selulosa yaitu menggunakan bahan serat gelas (fiberglass). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan serat gelas (fiberglass) 0%, 0,2%, 0,3% dan 0,4% dalam pengujian marshall dan untuk mengetahui nilai KAO yang dibutuhkan dalam menahan beban lalu lintas dengan pengujian karakteristik marshall. Berdasarkan Hasil pengujian diperoleh bahwa campuran menggunakan serat fiberglass mempunyai nilai stabilitasnya masing-masing pada kadar serat 0% nilai stabilitas sebesar 914kg > 600Kg, pada kadar serat 0,2% nilai stabilitas sebesar 930kg > 600kg, pada kadar serat 0,3% 1002kg > 600kg dengan nilai KAO ketiga serat tersbut sama yaitu 6,75%. Sedangkan nilai stabilitas kadar serat 0,4% sebesar 1032 kg > 600 kg yang dimana nilai kadar serat 0,4% merupakan nilai stabilitas yang optimum dengan nilai KAO 7%. Dimana dari hasil penelitian ini dapat di tarik kesimpulan bahwa penggunaan serat gelas fiberglass mampu menahan beban dan dapat menjadi bahan alternatif sebagai bahan campuran SMA karena memenuhi Standar Spesifikasi Bina Marga.
