Abstract

This purpose of the research is to describe the student abilities to solve math problems based on APOS theory on the material of polyhedron in term of the student learning activities level. The instrument of this research consist of test instruments, there are polyhedron test and a non-test instrument, that’s student learning activities questionnaire and interview guidelines. The data collection technique used written test with the material of polyhedron and non-test in the form of questionnaires and interviews. The research subjects were students of class VIII F of SMP Negeri 1 Kota Serang and the total of the samples were six students based on Simple Random Sampling. Data analysis techniques used the data reduction, data visualization and drawing conclusions. The result of the research showed that student abilities to solve math problems based on APOS theory, that’s students who had high categorization of learning activities tended to be able to pass all stages of APOS theory, students who had moderate categorization of learning activities tended to be able to passed through all stages from the APOS theory, the students who had learning activity categories tend to able to passed through, Actions, Processes and Objects and the students who had low categorization of learning activities tend to be able to passed through only the Action and Process.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika berdasarkan teori APOS pada materi Bangun Ruang Sisi Datar ditinjau dari tingkat aktivitas belajar siswa. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini berupa instrumen non tes yakni sebuah angket yang diberikan kepada siswa, instrumen tes yakni sebuah soal-soal matematika dan pedoman wawancara. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah pemberian angket (nontes), pengisian soal (tes tertulis), dan wawancara. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Kota Serang yang sudah terpilih subjek nya yaitu satu kelas VIII F yang kemudian dipilih enam siswa terpilih untuk dijadikan subjek penelitian ini untuk diwawancarai. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika berdasarkan teori APOS yang memiliki kategorisasi aktivitas belajar tinggi cenderung mampu melewati semua tahapan dari teori APOS, untuk siswa yang memiliki kategorisasi aktivitas belajar sedang cenderung mampu melewati tahapan aksi, proses dan objek saja dan siswa yang memiliki kategorisasi aktivitas belajar rendah cenderung mampu melewati tahapan aksi dan tahapan proses saja.
