Abstract
Cafe is a place to drink coffee where visitors are entertained with music. However, along with its development, the cafe is no longer just a place to drink coffee. They have been transformed as providers of free public space and a place where public opinion is formed. In Serang City, Cafe Umakite and Mang Jaseng became pioneers in forming a friendly cafe for discussion for everyone, especially youth. Seeing this unique phenomenon, the researchers tried to explore the role and how the public opinion formed in the two cafes. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The method used is a case study, at Kafe Umakite and Kafe Mang Jaseng, with a constructivism research paradigm. Data collection techniques used are observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, with triangulation as a test of the validity of the data. The results show that Umakite and Mang Jaseng cafes are proof that a cafe can be more than just a place to hang out and drink coffee. Their role as facilitators or even initiators of discussions can provide a platform for community aspirations. The topics discussed in this research at Cafe Umakite are: 1) Creative economy, 2) Multimedia, 3) Social issues, 4) Politics, 5) Public policy, 6) Social Media, 7) Technology. While the topics discussed at the Mang Jaseng Cafe were: 1) Employment, 2) Organizational activities, 3) Daily problems, 4) Issues in social media, 5) Economic issues, 6) Technology, 7) Public policy . The formation of opinions in these cafes comes from open discussions about public issues that exist in society. However, this does not mean that the discussion can necessarily be said to have an effect on government policy. However, the thing that needs to be underlined is that the topics are real and felt by society, therefore shaped the public opinion.

| Additional Information: | Kafe merupakan sebuah tempat minum kopi yang pengunjungnya dihibur dengan musik. Namun, seiring perkembangannya, kafe tidak lagi sekadar tempat minum kopi saja. Mereka telah bertransformasi sebagai penyedia ruang publik yang bebas dan tempat terbentuknya opini-opini publik. Di Kota Serang, Kafe Umakite dan Mang Jaseng menjadi pionir dalam pembentukan wajah kafe yang ramah untuk diskusi bagi setiap kalangan, khusunya anak muda. Melihat fenomena unik tersebut, peneliti mencoba menggali peran dan bagaimana pembentukan opini publik yang terjadi di kedua kafe tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang berjenis deksriptif. Metode yang digunakan yakni studi kasus, di Kafe Umakite dan Kafe Mang Jaseng, dengan paradigma penelitian konstruktivis. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi, dengan triangulasi sebagai uji keabsahan datanya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan Kafe Umakite dan Mang Jaseng menjadi bukti bahwa sebuah kafe dapat menjadi lebih dari sekedar tempat nongkrong dan minum kopi. Peran mereka sebagai fasilitator atau bahkan inisiator diskusi dapat menyediakan wadah bagi aspirasi masyarakat. Topik yang dibahas dalam diskusi pada penelitian kali ini di Kafe Umakite adalah: 1) Ekonomi kreatif, 2) Multimedia, 3) Isu-isu sosial, 4) Politik, 5) Kebijakan publik, 6) Media Sosial, 7) Teknologi. Sedangkan topik yang dibahas dalam diskusi di Kafe Mang Jaseng adalah: 1) Pekerjaan/ketenagakerjaan, 2) Kegiatan organisasi, 3) Masalah keseharian, 4) Isu-isu di media sosial, 5) Isu ekonomi, 6) Teknologi, 7) Kebijakan publik. Pembentukan opini yang ada di kafe-kafe tersebut berasal dari diskusi-diskusi terbuka mengenai isu-isu publik yang ada di masyarakat. Meski demikian, tidak berarti pembicaraan tersebut serta merta dikatakan berpengaruh terhadap kebijakan pemerintah. Tapi, hal yang perlu digarisbawahi adalah topik tersebut nyata dan terasa hingga membentuk opini publik. | |||||||||
