Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the teachers’ strategies and teachers' application in teaching reading comprehension at seventh grade students of Daar Al-Ilmi Islamic boarding school Ciklur Serang-Banten. This research belongs to a case study using descriptive qualitative method. The data were taken from semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. In analyzing the data the researcher used data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The participants of the research were two English teachers at sevent garde students of Daar Al-Ilmi Islamic boarding school Cikulur Serang-Banten. The findings of the analysis is the two English teachers at seventh grade students of Daar Al-Ilmi Islamic boarding school Cikulur Serang-Banten used some strategies in teaching reading comprehension such as Silent rading, Scanning, Skimming, Reading aloud, and use the dictionary. While the teachers' application in teaching reading comprehension is the teachers apply teaching strategies in reading comprehension by trying to make the rest understand the text that has been read.

Additional Information: ABSTRAK Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui strategi dan penerapan guru dalam mengajar pemahaman membaca pada siswa kelas VII Pondok Pesantren Daar Al-Ilmi Ciklur Serang-Banten. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian studi kasus dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data diambil dari wawancara semi terstruktur, observasi non partisipan, dan dokumentasi. Dalam menganalisis data peneliti menggunakan reduksi data, display data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Partisipan penelitian ini adalah dua orang guru bahasa Inggris di santri tujuh garda Pesantren Daar Al-Ilmi Cikulur Serang-Banten. Temuan dari analisis ini adalah dua guru bahasa Inggris di siswa kelas tujuh Pesantren Daar Al-Ilmi Cikulur Serang-Banten menggunakan beberapa strategi dalam mengajar pemahaman bacaan seperti Silent rading, Scanning, Skimming, Reading aloud, dan menggunakan kamus. Sedangkan penerapan guru dalam mengajar pemahaman bacaan adalah guru menerapkan strategi mengajar dalam pemahaman membaca dengan berusaha membuat siswa lain memahami teks yang telah dibaca.
