Abstract
The inclusion of women’s studies in the digital media is still perplexing to give an accurate understanding of feminism. The view of feminism in Indonesian is still not broad yet. Feminism in Indonesia aims to provide informants regarding women’s lives that previously had not been shown. Some organized women movements in Indonesia established sites and accounts on social media that focus on the issue of gender, sexuality, and differences also arise, such as Magdalene. This research aims to describe how the followers of Magdalene use their feminist digital media to explore issues in everyday activities, characteristics of each individual, and factors of the women’s movements from the followers of Magdalene who follow feminism media in the virtual realm. This research uses feminist communication theory. This research is qualitative descriptive by using the method of ethnographic study and data collecting through studies of documentation, interview, and observation. The result of this study shows that the feminist digital media literacy ability of seven informants is at the first stage. At this stage, informants have quite good knowledge regarding the feminist digital media and are also able to behave on the media messages from what they follow critically. In the acceptance position, according to the feminist communication, the audiences are divided into four characteristics, namely life experience, political, polyvocal, and transformative. The majority of informants’ acceptance is in the position of life experience. The researcher suggests that if further research is conducted, it is expected that one can use more significant samples from various backgrounds.

Additional Information: | Masuknya kajian perempuan dalam media digital ini tidaklah mudah memberikan pengertian apa yang tepat dengan feminisme. Pandangan feminisme dalam masyarakat Indonesia masih belum luas. Feminisme di Indonesia sendiri memiliki tujuan menyediakan informan mengenai kehidupan perempuan yang sebelumnya tidak diperlihatkan. Beberapa gerakan perempuan di Indonesia yang telah terorganisasi mendirikan situs dan akun di media sosial yang fokus pada isu-isu gender, seksualitas, dan perbedaan juga muncul seperti Magdalene. Peneltian ini bertujuan bagaimana followers Magdalene menggunakan media digital feminisme untuk mengeksplorasi isu-isu dalam aktivitas sehari hari, karakteristik tiap individu, dan factor-faktor pergerakan perempuan followers Magdalene yang mengikuti media feminisme dalam ranah virtual. Penelitian ini menggunakan feminist communication theory. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode studi etnografi dan pengumpulan data melalui studi dokumentasi, wawnacara, dan observasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa kemampuan literasi media digital feminisme ketujuh informan berada dalam tahapan awal. Pada tahap ini informan memiliki pengetahuan yang cukup baik terkait media digital feminisme serta mampu bersikap kritis terhadap pesan media yang mereka ikuti. Dalam posisi penerimaan berdarkan feminist communication, khalayak terbagi dalam empat sifat yakni pengalaman hidup, politis, polyvocal dan transformartif. Mayoritas penerimaan informan berada dalam posisi pengalaman hidup. Penulis menyarankan jika dilakukan peneltian lanjutkan diharapkan dapat menggunakan sample yang lebih besar dengan latar belakang yang beragam. | |||||||||
