Abstract
Corn oil is an essential fatty acid containing glycerol and fatty acids. The highs fatty acids in corn oil are linolenic acid (n-3) and linoleic acid (n-6). This study aimed to evaluate the addition of different doses of corn oil on the growth and survival of tiger catfish (Pseudoplatystoma punctifer) larvae. Tiger catfish larvae (0.004 g) were kept in an aquarium (30x20x20 cm) with a volume of 9 L for 10 days. Enrichment using corn oil was carried out six times a day with an enrichment duration of 4 hours, and every 4 hours continuously in each day for feeding. Three treatments with different doses, P0 (control), P1 (0.075% corn oil), P2 (0.225% corn oil) with three replications were used in the present study. The results showed that the enrichment of Artemia sp. has a significant effect on larval growth (p<0.05). The highest growth value in P2 treatment with 0.0225% corn oil resulted in a larval weight growth of 0.103 g and a length of 20.33 mm. However, enrichment of corn oil did not significantly affect the survival of tiger catfish larvae. Furthermore, the survival of larvae has ranged from 67-72%. It can be concluded that the enrichment of Artemia sp with corn oil as the best larval initial feed compared to other treatments is 0.225%.
