Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with high mineral reserves, one of which is nickel. Over time, nickel sulphide ore reserves continue to decrease so that laterite nickel ore utilization as a raw material for nickel production must be carried out even though the nickel content of laterite nickel is lower than nickel sulphide. Laterite nickel ore can be treated hydrometallurgically by leaching and followed by sulfide deposition to produce an intermediate product in the form of mixed sulfide precipitate (MSP) which can be used for the manufacture of Lithium-Ion Battery (LIB). In this research, sulfide was precipitated with Na2S solution and the raw material was synthetic PLS which was a mixture of nickel sulfate hexahydrate, cobalt sulfate heptahydrate and iron sulfate. The deposition process was carried out by the titration method using variations of pH 3, 4, 5 and 6 as well as variations in temperature of 30, 60 and 90oC to determine the effect of pH and temperature on % precipitation of nickel, iron and cobalt. The highest percentage of precipitation was obtained at the use of pH 6 and a temperature of 90oC, which was 99.94% for nickel, 94.74% for iron and 99.90% for cobalt, but for the best percentage of precipitation obtained at the use of pH 4 and a temperature of 60oC, namely of 93.98% for nickel, 3.35% for iron and 88.25% for cobalt. Additional Information: Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara dengan cadangan mineral yang tinggi, salah satunya yaitu nikel. Seiring berkembangnya waktu, cadangan bijih nikel sulfida terus berkurang sehingga pemanfaatan bijih nikel laterit sebagai bahan baku produksi nikel harus dilakukan meskipun kandungan nikel pada nikel laterit lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan nikel sulfida. Pengelohan bijih nikel laterit dapat dilakukan secara hidrometalurgi dengan dilakukan pelindian dan dilanjutkan dengan pengendapan sulfida untuk mengasilkan produk antara berupa mixed sulfide precipitate (MSP) yang dapat digunakan untuk pembuatan Lithium-Ion Battery (LIB). Pada penelitian ini dilakukan pengendapan sulfida dengan larutan Na2S dan bahan baku berupa PLS sintesis yang merupakan campuran nikel sulfat hexahidrat, kobalt sulfat heptahidrat dan besi sulfat. Proses pengendapan dilakukan dengan metode titrasi menggunakan variasi pH 3, 4, 5 dan 6 serta variasi temperatur 30, 60 dan 90oC untuk mengetahui pengaruh pH dan temperatur terhadap persen pengendapan nikel, besi dan kobalt. Perolehan persen pengendapan tertinggi diperoleh pada penggunaan pH 6 dan temperatur 90oC yaitu sebesar 99,94% untuk nikel, 94,74% untuk besi dan 99,90% untuk kobalt, namun untuk perolehan persen pengendapan terbaik diperoleh pada penggunaan pH 4 dan temperatur 60oC yaitu sebesar 93,98% untuk nikel, 3,35% untuk besi dan 88,25% untuk kobalt.
