Abstract

There are many activities around the Pamujan Besar Island waters, such as fisheries, shipping traffic as well as waste pollution, and run-off from rivers and the mainland of Banten Bay. This indicates that rich in organic matter and nutrients needed by phytoplankton in the waters. The algae bloom toxic species can cause Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). The phenomenon of HABs has also occurred around the Pamujan Besar Island waters, including Jakarta Bay and Lampung Bay. The purpose of this study was to identify the phytoplankton species that have the potential to cause Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) in the Pamujan Besar Island waters. Water sampling was carried out vertically and horizontally methods using a plankton net with eight stations on the water column. The identification of phytoplankton was conducted using a Sedgewick rafter and microscope Leica DM500 Binocular at the Aquaculture Laboratory, University of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa. The results showed in the Pamujan Besar Island water found the HABs potentially species of phytoplankton. There are Chaetoceros spp., Pseudo-nitzschia sp., Noctiluca sp., Ceratium spp., Protoperidinium sp., Planktothrix sp., and Aphanizomenon sp. Among the 7 species, the Chaetoceros spp. species the most commonly found in Pamujan Besar Island with the highest abundance is 6,093 ind/L. The highest abundance of phytoplankton has not reached the stage yet of Harmful Algae Bloomings (HABs). Keywords: Chaetoceros spp., HABs, Pamujan Besar Island, phytoplankton

Additional Information: Ada banyak aktivitas di sekitar perairan Pulau Pamujan Besar, seperti perikanan, lalu lintas perkapalan serta pencemaran limbah, dan masukan dari sungai dan daratan Teluk Banten. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa wilayah perairan Pulau Pamujan Besar kaya akan bahan organik dan nutrisi yang dibutuhkan oleh fitoplankton di perairan. Spesies beracun ganggang mekar dapat menyebabkan Mekar Alga Berbahaya (HAB). Fenomena HABs juga terjadi di sekitar perairan Pulau Pamujan Besar, antara lain Teluk Jakarta dan Teluk Lampung. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi jenis fitoplankton yang berpotensi menyebabkan Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) di perairan Pulau Pamujan Besar. Pengambilan sampel air dilakukan secara vertikal dan horizontal menggunakan plankton net dengan delapan stasiun pada kolom air. Identifikasi fitoplankton dilakukan dengan menggunakan Sedgewick rafter dan mikroskop Leica DM500 Binocular di Laboratorium Budidaya Perairan Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa di perairan Pulau Pamujan Besar ditemukan spesies fitoplankton yang berpotensi HAB. Spesies tersebut yaitu Chaetoceros spp., Pseudo-nitzschia sp., Noctiluca sp., Ceratium spp., Protoperidinium sp., Planktothrix sp., dan Aphanizomenon sp. Di antara 7 spesies tersebut, Chaetoceros spp. merupakan jenis yang paling banyak ditemukan di Pulau Pamujan Besar dengan kelimpahan tertinggi yaitu 6.093 ind/L. Tingginya kelimpahan fitoplankton tersebut belum mencapai tahap Harmful Algae Bloomings (HABs). Kata kunci: Chaetoceros spp., HABs, Pulau Pamujan Besar, fitoplankton
