Abstract
Corn cobs are agricultural waste resulting from the corn shelling process. Cellulose contained in corn cobs can be used as raw material for the manufacture of cellulose acetate which can be used as a membrane material. The purpose of this study was to determine the cellulose content found in corn cobs, to determine changes in the content contained in corn cobs after the cellulose isolation process, to determine the characteristics of cellulose acetate obtained from corn cobs, to determine the stages in making membranes using the phase inversion method, to determine the characteristics of the membrane. cellulose acetate from corn cobs and the effect of variations in the addition of PEG 6000 on the value of membrane density and membrane rejection value. The methods used include cellulose isolation, cellulose acetate synthesis and phase inversion method. Furthermore, the analytical methods used include the chesson-datta analysis method, characterization of cellulose acetate and characterization of cellulose acetate membranes. Based on the results of the research that has been done, it can be concluded that: Corn cobs contain -cellulose, lignin, hemicellulose and water content of 30%, 41%, 16% and 13%, respectively. After the cellulose isolation process, the yield was 37.664% with the composition of -cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and water content of 60%, 16%, 10%, 14%, respectively. In the cellulose acetate synthesis process, cellulose diacetate was obtained with a yield of 83,4875%. The characterization of the cellulose acetate membrane stated that the higher the concentration of PEG 6000 added, the higher the density of the membrane obtained. The largest density when the addition of PEG 6000 14% was 0.7043 g/cm3 and the higher the concentration of PEG 6000 added, the smaller the rejection value, the largest rejection value was obtained when the addition of PEG 6000 14% was 63%.

Additional Information: | Tongkol jagung merupakan limbah pertanian hasil proses pemipilan jagung. Selulosa yang terkandung dalam tongkol jagung dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku pembuatan selulosa asetat yang dimana dapat digunakan sebagai bahan pembuatan membrane. Tujuan dilakukannya penelitian ini adalah mengetahui kandungan selulosa yang terdapat pada tongkol jagung, mengetahui perubahan kandungan yang terdapat dalam tongkol jagung setelah proses isolasi selulosa, mengetahui karakteristik selulosa asetat yang didapat dari tongkol jagung, mengetahui tahap dalam pembuatan membrane dengan metode inversi fasa, mengetahui karakteristik membran selulosa asetat dari tongkol jagung dan pengaruh variasi penambahan PEG 6000 terhadap nilai densitas membrane dan nilai rejeksi membran. Metode yang dilakukan meliputi isolasi selulosa, sintesa selulosa asetat dan metode inversi fasa. Selanjutnya metode analisa nya digunakan meliputi metode analisa chesson-datta, karakterisasi selulosa asetat dan karakterisasi membran selulosa asetat. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa : Tongkol jagung memiliki kandungan α-selulosa, lignin, hemiselulosa dan kadar air berturut-turut adalah 30%, 41%, 16% dan 13%. Setelah proses isolasi selulosa didapatkan hasil rendeman sebesar 37,664% dengan komposisi α-selulosa, hemiselulosa, lignin dan kadar air berturut-turut adalah 60%, 16%, 10%, 14%. Pada proses sintesa selulosa asetat didapatkan selulosa diasetat dengan yield sebesar 83,4875%. Karakterisasi pada membrane selulosa asetat menyatakan bahwa semakin tinggi konsentrasi PEG 6000 yang ditambahkan maka semakin tinggi pula densitas membrane yang didapatkan. Densitas terbesar saat penambahan PEG 6000 14% sebesar 0,7043 g/cm3 dan semakin tinggi konsentrasi PEG 6000 yang ditambahkan maka semakin kecil nilai rejeksi yang didapatkan nilai rejeksi terbesar didapatkan saat penambahan PEG 6000 14% sebesar 63%. | ||||||
