Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the effect of various macroeconomic variables on private investment. The research data used is panel data for 26 provinces during the period 1990-2007. The data is obtained from official government sources. The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of economic growth, interest rates, government investment, inflation, availability of investment credit, and exchange rates on private investment. In addition, it will also examine the effect of private investment on economic growth, employment opportunities and income distribution. Survey research method with explanatory approach has been used for this research. As for data analysis, Two Stages Least Square (2SLS) analysis has been used with a random effects model approach, primarily aimed at examining the effect of private investment on economic growth, employment opportunities and income distribution in Indonesia. The conclusions of the study include, First, an increase in government investment, economic growth, exchange rate depreciation and the availability of investment credit will increase private investment. Meanwhile, an increase in inflation and interest rates will reduce private investment. Second, private investment has a positive effect on economic growth and employment opportunities, and has a negative effect on income distribution
