Abstract

Kemunculan pandemi Covid-19 mengakibatkan hubungan antara masyarakat dengan media massa menjadi persoalan yang dilematik. Disatu sisi media berfungsi sebagai penyedia informasi yang memperbaharui pengetahuan, serta transformasi mental kearah pencerahan dan penyadaran. Namun disisi lain, media justru memberikan pengaruh buruk yang meningkatkan resiko kekhawatiran dan kecemasan bagi pembacanya. Masyarakat dengan literasi media yang baik memiliki filter efektif dari terpaan informasi, serta memiliki kendali untuk menginterpretasikan makna pesan yang ditemui dengan prespektifnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengambarkan tahapan literasi media, menganalisis penerimaan dan pemaknaan khalayak terhadap berita Covid-19, dan mengetahui pandangan khalayak terhadap pemberitaan Covid-19 di media online. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori penerimaan khalayak, literasi media, dan teori perbedaan individu. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode analisis resepsi dan pengumpulan data melalui studi dokumentasi, wawancara mendalam dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kemampuan literasi media kedelapan informan berada dalam tahapan akhir. Pada tahap ini informan memiliki pengetahuan yang mendalam terkait produksi media serta mampu bersikap kritis terhadap pesan media yang mereka temui. Dalam posisi penerimaan berdasarkan model encoding – decoding, khalayak terbagi dalam tiga posisi yakni dominan, negosiasi, dan oposisi. Mayoritas penerimaan informan berada dalam posisi negosiasi. Penulis menyarankan jika dilakukan penelitian lanjutkan diharapkan dapat menggunakan sample yang lebih besar dengan latar belakang yang beragam.

Additional Information: The emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in the relationship between the public and the mass media becoming a dilemma. On the one hand, the media functions as a provider of information that updates knowledge, as well as a mental transformation towards enlightenment and awareness. But on the other hand, the media actually has a bad influence which increases the risk of worry and anxiety for the readers. People with good media literacy have an effective filter from information exposure, and have control to interpret the meaning of messages that are encountered with their perspective. This study aims to describe the stages of media literacy and to analyze the audience's acceptance and meaning of the Covid�19 news. This study uses the audience reception theory, media literacy, and individual difference theory. This research is a descriptive qualitative research using the method of reception analysis and data collection through documentation study, in-depth interviews, and observation. The results showed that the media literacy skills of the eight informants were in the final stages. At this stage the informants have in-depth knowledge of media production and are able to be critical of the media messages they encounter. In the position of acceptance based on the encoding - decoding model, the audience is divided into three positions, namely dominant, negotiation and opposition. The majority of receiving informants are in negotiating positions. The author suggests that if the research is carried out, it is hoped that it can use a larger sample with a variety of backgrounds.
