Abstract
ABSTRACT Fransiska Pujining Pangestu. NIM. 6662131796. Communication Strategy of Hollaback Jakarta in Fighting Against Sexual Harassment in Public Spaces. Advisor I: Dr. Ing. Rangga Galura Gumelar, M.Si and Advisor II: Andin Nesia, S.IK., M.Ikom Sexual harassment in public spaces is one of the sexual violence that occurs in Indonesia, not exception in big cities like Jakarta. CATAHU 2020 has recorded there were 520 reported cases of sexual harassment in community that happened in 2019. Sexual harassment is still common place in society, even though sexual harassment also causes deep trauma for the victims. Hollaback Jakarta is a global community that was founded in September 2016 and focuses on fighting and ending sexual harassment in public spaces. Researcher used Anwar Arifin's communication strategy with a qualitative approach. The data obtained comes from the results of interviews, observations, and other supporting data. The main objective of this research is to see how the communication strategy of Hollaback Jakarta in fighting harassment in public spaces. The informant for this research consisted of 2 Key informants namely co-director of Hollaback Jakarta and 2 supporting informants. The results of this study are (1) The audience recognition stage where the target audience of Hollaback Jakarta is the general audience and young people. (2) The stage of compiling messages, messages arranged based on the level of knowledge and understanding of the audience, messages are also invincible with themes and packaged attractively with the addition of other media such as pictures and videos. (3) The method definition stage, Hollaback Jakarta delivers messages using redundancy (repetition), informative, educational, and persuasive methods. (4) The media selection and use stage, where Hollaback Jakarta uses face-to-face media, and internet media, including the Mobile App, Website, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram. The conclusion of this research is the communication strategy of Hollaback Jakarta is to open public discussions and to increase public awareness of violence and sexual harassment issues by using a strategy of audience recognition, stage of compiling messages, method definition stage, and media selection and use stage.
