Abstract
ABSTRACT Upper extremity fractures are fractures that occur in the bones that make up the location of the upper extremities in the hands, wrists, forearms, elbows, upper arms and shoulder girdles. Can occur due to excessive pressure or direct trauma to the bone causing a fracture resulting in damage to muscles and tissues. ORIF surgery is a surgical procedure to join fractures using metal plates, pins, rods, or screws. The effect of surgery causes pain. One of the non-pharmacological treatments that can be done to treat pain is deep breathing relaxation techniques. Deep breathing relaxation technique is a form of nursing care that is taught to patients to reduce pain intensity and help the body, mind and spirit to achieve relaxation. The purpose of this paper is to describe nursing care in postoperative patients with upper extremity fractures with pain management measures: deep breathing relaxation. Descriptive research method in the form of a case study with the research subject in this case study is a comparison of 2 patients with post ORIF upper extremity fractures. The results showed that both patients complained of acute pain, after taking deep breath relaxation for 3 days, patient 1 experienced a greater pain scale than patient 2 because it was influenced by factors that affect pain, namely factors from previous experiences and anxiety. The conclusion is that deep breathing relaxation is one of the non-pharmacological techniques to reduce pain intensity in post-ORIF patients with upper extremity fractures of the radius ulna. Keywords: Upper extremity fracture, pain, deep breath relaxation
