Abstract
The objective of this research is to find out the types of code switching and the reason an English teacher used Code-Switching in online teaching learning activity in eighth grade of SMPN 3 Kota Serang. The researcher used a qualitative case study method with a triangulation technique as a technique in collecting the data. The subjects of this research were an English teacher and students in the eighth grade of SMPN 3 Kota Serang. The instruments of this research were observation, recording, and interview. From the result of the data there were three types of code�switching being used in teaching learning activity. There are tag-switching 2 times, intra-sentential switching 37 times and inter-sentential switching 9 times. In accordance with the result of the research, a structured interview regarding the code switching used was conducted to know the reason of teachers’ code switching, it was used to clarify the meaning for the students because the students lack of vocabulary. The result of the research, it could be found that there were thee types of code switching that used in teaching, and the factor that caused code switching is repetition used for clarification.
