Abstract
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh membaca majalah bahasa Inggris di pemahaman membaca untuk siswa di kelas delapan. Peneliti melakukan kuasi penelitian eksperimental (studi) untuk menguji pengaruh membaca majalah bahasa Inggris terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap siswa kelas VIII SMPN 18 Tangerang. Siswa dipilih secara acak sebagai berkelompok (kelas). Ada dua kelas sebagai pembanding. Kelas-kelas tersebut ditempatkan pada kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Perawatan dirancang untuk dua pertemuan. Itu diberikan hanya untuk kelas eksperimen. Peneliti memilih teks deskriptif sebagai bahan ajar. Dipilih karena sesuai dengan silabus kelas VIII di semester pertama. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan pengaruh positif yang ditunjukkan dengan membaca majalah bahasa Inggris. Terbukti dari hasil post test siswa skor yang menunjukkan prestasi yang lebih baik dari sebelum menerima perlakuan. Pengujian hipotesis menerima hipotesis alternatif (Ha) dan menolak hipotesis nol (Ho). Itu dibandingkan uji t independen dengan t-tabel pada tingkat signifikansi 0,05 = 2,004. Berdasarkan perhitungan, diperoleh bahwa t-test lebih tinggi dari t-tabel (2,204 > 2,002). Jadi, ada pengaruh positif membaca majalah bahasa Inggris terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa.

| Additional Information: | The objective of the research is to find out the influence of reading English magazine in reading comprehension for students at the eighth grade. The researcher conducted quasi experimental research (study) to examine the influence of reading English magazine toward students’ reading comprehension. This research investigated toward Eighth grade students of SMPN 18 Tangerang. Students were chosen randomly as grouped (class). There were two classes as comparison. Those classes assigned to experimental and control class. Treatments were designed for two meeting. It was given to experimental class only. The researcher chose descriptive text as teaching-learning material. It was chosen because it appropriated with the syllabus of the Eighth grade in first semester. Research finding indicated the positive influence which shown by reading English magazine. It was proven by the result of the students’ post test score which showed better achievement than before receiving the treatments. Hypothesis testing accepted alternative hypothesis (Ha) and rejected null hypothesis (Ho). It was compared independent t-test with t-table at a given level of significance 0.05 = 2.004. Based on the computation, it was obtained that t-test was higher than t-table(2.204 > 2.002). Thus, there was positive influence of reading English magazine toward students’ reading comprehension. | |||||||||
