Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the cooperative integrated reading and composition (circ) learning model to the written and verbal communication skills of students on the concepts of environmental management at SMP YPWKS Cilegon. The method used in this study was a quasi experimental with randomized control group only design. This study was conducted at SMP YPWKS Cilegon in the second semester of academic year 2014/2015 with a samples of class VII F as an experimental class and VII D as control classes, taken through cluster sampling technique. Data collection techniques to measure the students communication skills using test and observation sheets for verbal communication skills of students. Overall the average value written communication skills of students at the control class is in the category enough (59,03) and the experimental class were in good category (73,98), while the average value of the verbal communication skills of students in the control class is at either category (63,03) and the experimental class were in the very good category (80,91). Data analysis techniques hypothesis test using SPSS 20.0 software for windows. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, probability sig. (0,00) < α (0,05) and probability values obtained value tcount (5,712 ) > ttable (2,037). It can be concluded that there was the effect of using cooperative integrated reading and learning (circ) learning model toward communication skills of students .
