Abstract
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan small diskusi kelompok terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa di kelas delapan SMPN 1 Mauk Kabupaten Tangerang. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif melalui eksperimen sejati sebagai desain penelitian. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMPN 1 Mauk Kabupaten Tangerang dan sampelnya adalah siswa kelas VIII-4 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VIII-1 sebagai kelas kontrol. Setiap kelas terdiri dari 30 siswa. Hasilnya, nilai rata-rata pre test pada kelas eksperimen adalah 58 dan nilai rata-rata post test kelas eksperimen adalah 83.9. Sedangkan rerata nilai pre test kelas kontrol adalah 61,97 dan rerata skor post test di kelas kontrol adalah 74,6. Selanjutnya, karena tvalue (5,43) adalah lebih tinggi dari ttabel (2,00), sehingga hipotesis alternatif (Ha ) diterima. Itu peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa ada pengaruh yang signifikan dengan menggunakan kelompok kecil Diskusi Pemahaman Membaca Siswa Kelas VIII SMPN 1 Mauk Kabupaten Tangerang. Peneliti mengharapkan diskusi kelompok kecil dapat digunakan sebagai metode pengajaran alternatif untuk mengajarkan pemahaman membaca.

| Additional Information: | The objectiveness of the research is to find out the influence of using small group discussion toward students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Mauk Kabupaten Tangerang. This research used quantitatvie approach through true esperimental as research design. The population of this research were the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Mauk Kabupaten Tangerang and the sample were the students of VIII-4 as the experimental class and VIII-1 as the control class. Each class consisted of 30 students. As the result, the mean score of the pre test in experimental class was 58 and the mean score of post test experimental class was 83.9. Meanwhile, the mean score of pre test in control class was 61.97 and the mean score of post test in control class was 74.6. Futhermore, because tvalue (5.43) was higher than ttable (2.00), so the alternative hypothesis (Ha ) was accepted. The researcher concluded that there was significant influence by using small group discussion toward students reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Mauk Kabupaten Tangerang. The researcher expected that small group discussion could be used as alternative teaching method to teach reading comprehension. | |||||||||
