Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada pengaruh yang signifikan pengaruh penggunaan flash card terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa di kelas tujuh kelas SMPN 18 kota serang. Peneliti menggunakan penelitian kuantitatif menerapkan desain eksperimen semu sebagai metode penelitian. Ada dua kelompok (kelas) yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Kelas kontrol dan eksperimen. Kontrol kelas menerima pengobatan tradisional (diperlakukan tanpa flashcard) sedangkan kelas eksperimen mendapatkan perlakuan flash card. Sebelum memulai pengobatan, dua tes serupa disiapkan sebagai pre-test/post-test untuk mengetahui pengetahuan kosakata di awal dan di akhir studi. Instrumen yang digunakan peneliti dalam penelitian ini adalah tes tertulis. Selain itu, konten dan validitas konstruk digunakan untuk mengetahui validitas tes. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa SMPN 18 Kota Serang dipilih 40 siswa untuk setiap kelas. Data yang dikumpulkan melalui pre-test dan post-test dianalisis dengan menggunakan t-test. Data analisis uji-t independen menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan antara rata-rata post-test untuk kedua kelas kontrol dan eksperimen. Hasil rerata post-test pada kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dari kelas kontrol. Rata-rata post-test dalam eksperimen kelas 72,88 dan kelas kontrol 55,63. Jadi, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada pengaruh signifikan penggunaan penguasaan kosakata siswa flashcard di kelas tujuh kelas SMPN 18 Kota Serang. Semua ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media kartu flash di kelas bahasa Inggris sangat dianjurkan.

Additional Information: The objective of this research was to find out whether there is any significant influence of using flash card toward student’s vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of SMPN 18 kota serang. The researcher used quantitative research implementing the quasi experimental design as research method. There were two groups (class) used in this research. The control and experimentalclass. The control class received the traditional treatment (treated without flashcard) while the experimental class received the flash card treatment. Before starting the treatment, two similar tests were prepared as the pre-test/pos-test to find out students’ vocabulary knowledge at the beginning and at the end of the study. The instruments used by the researcher in this research were the written test. Moreover, content and construct validity was used to know the validity of tests. Sample of this research is students of SMPN 18 Kota Serang, 40 students selected for each class. The data which collected through pre-test and post-test were analyzed by using t-test. The data analysis of independent t-test shows that there is a difference between post-test means for both of control and experimental classes. The result of post-test mean in experimental class is higher than control class. The post-test mean in experimental classwas 72,88 and in control classwas 55,63. So, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence of using flashcard students’ vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of SMPN 18 Kota Serang. All these suggest that the use of flash card media in the class of English is highly encouraged.
