Abstract

Statistical data showed that wetland was decreasing in Banten Province. It was due to a conversion of wetland to non-wetland or non-agricultural land. It will lose the production opportunity of paddy. Wetland is the main land to produce paddy. Meanwhile, the population is increasing and automatically rice consumption requirement will be increasing too. This condition will impact the rice sufficiency. This study aimed to describe the impact of wetland conversion to paddy production and rice sufficiency, it was conducted in Banten Province in 2014. The study method using descriptive-quantitative. The results showed the population factor (X 1 ) and the industry factor (X ) were not significant in effecting the wetland area (Y), either simultaneously or partially, with its model was LnY = 22.235 - 0,344LnX 1 - 0,605LnX 2 2 . The population projection was 15.882.620 peoples in 2025, with population growth rate is 2,76% annually, population density is 1.644 per km 2 , and rice consumption needs of population is 1.426.278 tons per year. The highest rate of wetland conversion partially occurred in 2004, it is -21,56 percent. The average rate of wetland conversion is -0,30 percent per year. The analysis of the wetland conversion rate continuously during the period 2001-2013, gotten the model Y = 201.180 - 1.642t. Wetland area projection shows that Banten will lose the opportunity to produce paddy is 194.768 tons during the period 2014-2025. Banten Province takes additional 645.358 tons of rice and additional 141.887 ha of wetland area to be able require population rice consumption in 2025
