Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul “Persepsi Guru terhadap Penggunaan Buku Teks Bahasa Inggris di SMAN 1 Kramatwatu” bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi guru terhadap penggunaan buku teks, strategi dan kesulitan mereka dalam menggunakan buku teks di kelas. Partisipan penelitian ini adalah dua orang guru di SMAN 1 Kramatwatu Serang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif sebagai pendekatannya. Pelajaran ini menggunakan tiga teknik dalam pengumpulan data; kuesioner, wawancara dan pengamatan. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa guru mempersepsikan positif terhadap buku pelajaran. Guru menganggap bahwa buku teks sesuai dengan kebutuhan siswa, kebutuhan guru dan ujian silabus. Dalam menggunakan buku teks, guru menggunakan strategi untuk membuat adaptasi pada buku teks dengan menambahkan materi, memodifikasi konten dan materi tambahan. Ada dua kesulitan utama yang dihadapi guru; tingkat kesulitan materi dan keterbatasan alat peraga. Hasil studi ini diharapkan dapat menambah wawasan guru tentang kriteria buku ajar yang baik dan dapat mempromosikan tujuan yang bermakna dan komunikatif untuk buku teks masa depan.

Additional Information: This study entitled “Teachers’ Perceptions towards the Use of English Textbook at SMAN 1 Kramatwatu” was aimed to find out the teachers’ perceptions towards the use of textbook, their strategies and difficulties in using the textbook in the classroom. The participants of the study were two teachers at SMAN 1 Kramatwatu in Serang. This was descriptive study using qualitative method as the approach. This study employed three techniques in collecting data; questionnaire, interview and observation. The finding showed that the teachers perceived positively towards the textbook. The teachers considered that the textbook suited the students’ need, teachers’ need and syllabus examination. In using the textbook, the teachers used strategies to make an adaptation on textbook by adding the material, modifying content and extending materials. There were two main difficulties faced by teachers; the level of difficulties of materials and limited teaching aid. The result of this study is expected to broaden teachers’ knowledge about criteria of good textbook and to promote meaningful and communicative purpose for future textbooks.
