Abstract

One of the raw materials of constituent of billet is import scrap. Imported scrap planning and control in P.T XYZ, has not been done well as seen on data available showing that there is an over stocking of raw material scrap within certain period. For example, in april, order or purchase of scrap was executed for 20,000 ton eventhough, there was stil enough stock available for about 12,087 ton, but the company only need 3,100 ton. This caused an overstocking supply as much as 28,987 ton. This overstocking was occured due to the company did not use a scientific approach in supply planning of imported scrap, instead they just used ordinary calculation in determining volume of imported scrap ordered. Thus, they always order scrap with enormous amount without any consideration of good timing on when they must order and when they must not. The purpose of this research is to identify how much exactly imported scrap that should properly be ordered or needed in a certain period and how precise in timing of ordering it. This research used material requirement planning method with lotsize Wagner-Within algorithm tehnique. The result of Wagner-Within algorithm process in this research is in accordance with the needs of each period which produced a minimum total inventory cost for Rp 2,310,000,000 with existing cost for Rp 13,842,200,000. The order of scrap was done 7 times with total quantity was 25,543 ton. Thus the cost of total order was Rp 140,00,000 and storage cost was Rp 2,170,000,000. Meanwhile, in existing condition the order was done twice but the volume of order was 42,000 ton so that the total ordering cost was Rp 40,000,000 and total stocking cost was Rp 13,802,200,000.
