Abstract

The research was determine the effect of growing media and polybag size on growth and yield of cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) in hydroponic cultivation system. This research was conducted in Beberan village RT/RW. 002/003 Drangong Taktakan Serang Banten, from November 2014 until March 2015 with used Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD)as factorial with three repetation. The factors were examined included the planting medium (M), namely: Charcoal Husk (M1), Compost (M2), and charcoal husk + Compost (M3)and the size of the poly (P), namely: 35 cm x 35 cm (P1), 40 cm x 40 cm (P2), and 45 cm x 45 cm (P3). Parameters observed include: plant height, leaf number, age of the plant during flowering, plant fresh weight, dry weight of the plant, number of fruits per plant, fruit diameter, fruit length and fruit weight per plant. The results showed that the use of multiple media cropping significant effect on plant height from age 1 to 7 MST MST (The highest average is 30.33 cm in planting medium compost), number of leaves (ages 1, 2, 5, 6 , and 7 MST) with the highest average was 31.22 strands of the growing media compost), plant fresh weight (average high of 45.47 g of the growing media husk + compost), plant dry weight (average The highest was 14.24 g of the growing media husk + compost), number of fruits per plant (average high of 90.11 on the planting medium fruit husk + compost), fruit length (ie the highest average of 2.21 cm the growing media compost), and weight of fruits per plant (average high of 63.31 g of the growing media husk + compost). But the planting medium + husk compost had an average growth and better results when compared with other growth media. The use of some size polybag does not give effect to all observation parameters, except the number of leaves (ages 2, 6, and 7 MST) with the highest average is 29.33 piece in a polybag with a size of 35 cm x 35 cm. However polybag size 35 cm x 35 cm had an average growth and better results when compared to the size of the other polybag. There was interaction between the use of multiple media polybag planting with different sizes, namely on plant height (ages 1, 3, and 7 MST), number of leaves (aged 2 and 7), and the diameter of the fruit.
