Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning model on written communication skills and mastery of the concept for class VII Junior High School 5 Tangerang on ecosystem concept. Study method was quasi experimental with randomized control group pretest-posttest design. CIRC learning model used as independent variable, while written communication skills and mastery of concepts used as the dependent variable. Population in this study were all of students class VII on Junior High School 5 Tangerang, 2013/2014 academic year with sample class VII G as an experiment class and VII J as a control class. Simple random sampling used in this research by the sampling technique. Multiple-choice test, rubric assessment papers and observation sheet for practice CIRC as instruments. Data analysis techniques used was independent sample t-test with a confidence level of 95%. It can be concluded that the written communication skills of students was not affected by the CIRC learning model applied, but influenced on the mastery of student concept of class VII to the ecosystem concept.
