Abstract

Good quality comes from controlled process. Effective control chart is a control chart that can detect rapidly shifting process mean very little. PT. X engaged in the manufacture of pipes. PT X is currently working on the manufacture of steel pipes are a problem mainly measure not in accordance with the specifications that the customer wants. The characteristics studied were characteristic quality of the diameter and thickness of steel pipe API 5L Gr B PSL 1. This study aims to detect the shift in process mean small in diameter and thickness of the pipe, to analyze the tendency of the weight λ, analyzing EWMA control chart with a p-value approach in detecting small shifts, knowing the cause uncontrolled process and determine the process capability index. Based on the results concluded that using CUSUM control chart able to detect a shift in the average at the level of variation of less than 1,5σ. The smaller the value of λ increasingly sensitive to detect data that is not controlled. P-value combination with the control map EWMA EWMA control chart results obtained with p-value approach is very sensitive in detecting small shifts average. The cause uncontrollable process caused by human factors, machine, method, material and environment. Characteristics of process capability in diameter and ideal for thick pipe including Cpk ≤ 1, then the process is not able to meet the specifications and for 1 ≤ 1:33 ≤Cp which means the capability of the process either.
